Overview
In Tampa, fire watch is required whenever automatic fire protection or detection systems are impaired for any reason, including planned maintenance, equipment failure, or construction activities. The Tampa Fire Rescue (TFR) Bureau of Fire Prevention enforces these requirements in coordination with NFPA 25 and the Florida Fire Prevention Code (FFPC). Property managers and contractors must post a qualified fire watch immediately upon system impairment and maintain written logs at a minimum of one patrol per hour. The fire watch must continue until the impaired system is restored to full service and verified by a licensed fire protection contractor.
